「L engine for ever,,,,,,,」 The reason why they put Fully tuned L engine in C34!?

About 25 years ago, when JUN auto factory was still in N town Tokyo(now they are in Iruma Saitama) This owner visited the shop for L28 motor tuning.

At this point, “carburetor+bore up” was the trend. He got 2.8→3.0L and it was a high spec tuned car in the era. Not so many years later, turbo tune became popular, and he brought his L engine to the next leve. “EFI ITB+NISMO twin turbo” JUN  threw that motor in to HR31 Skyline and the owner had a good time even with out A/C.

However, there is no “happily ever after” in the world of tuning car. Eventually HR31chassis deteriorated. He decided to change shell. However, it’s hard to pass inspection test with any of GF-models. It was way easy to pass the inspection with old model cars(old smog regulation applies to old cars).

 He was thinking R32 as a first choice, but since they have multi-link suspension on the front and it coz of tight engine bay space between suspension tower. After all the surch he picked C34 which has MacPherson strut suspension.

After all the journey they went through, L engine C34 Laurel was born, and it has lots of “Grate Engineer work” inside.

To switch ITB to big single throttle, they made an adaptor to connect ITB intake manifold and surge tank to keep the cost down.

Because of the owner’s request “Install an A/C” space issue came up. It was hard to install A/C because twin turbo was taking so much space. They picked HKS GT2835R. It’s a small turbo for 3.0L but with 1.3kpa boost make 350ph/50kgm, and has grate response in lower rpm.

Note: They use L20 turbo stock Ex manifold to avoid typical turn flow motor issue, “exhaust leak”.

To avoid wiring trouble they ran whole new wire. Because of owner’s strong request, it runs tube fuses. They use distributor to pick up the timing and individual coiled by Ultra CDI.

F-CON Vpro to control the motor, It idles smoothly even though it was a L28 turbo with high cam set up.

Because the car was road legal, there is only Blitz realize, they use it. However, it nice and quiet that much with the rest of the car.

 ARC one off inter cooler was from twin turbo era, which cost 200,000yen, that he keeps as it is.

Borg warner 5speed didn’t need any modification to install, maybe it was for Datsun 280ZX. They use MT console box and clutch pedal from C34 taxi spec.

They put S15 4 pods stock brake calipers for the front, and R32 2 pods brake caliper for the rear to install deep dish WORK mister 17inch O-disk. ADVAN Neova AD08 to grab the road.

A pair of PRE seats brings back the memory. They were originally gray and black but now,,,, it’s good aged coler.

He used to run Omori gauges, but he installed Defi electric gauges when he build this C34. Wooden look panels makes car classy.

It seems just another weird tuned car, but there is owner’s love for L engine and JUN auto mechanic’s engineer pride.
