Inheriting the 3000GT Legend!
Rear wing made from authentic TRD3000GT mold!
It’s no exaggeration to say that this years’ SEMA show was a GR Supra festival. This was likely due to the fact that delivery of the vehicle was earlier than in Japan and production volume much higher.
Among the hordes of Supras, this “GR 3000GT Concept” attracted the attention of visitors to the Toyota booth. Work was done by Toyota Customizing Development (TCD).
This name strikes a chord with all Supra lovers. Here we have a tribute to the legendary full tune “TRD3000GT” JZA80 Supra, which was announced by Toyota at the Tokyo Auto Salon in 1994.
“Compromise was completely out of the question, so we involved same team who worked on the TRD3000GT to develop all aero parts” says Mr. Kurimoto of TCD who led the project.
All the aero parts installed were clearly reminiscent of the 3000GT, so its really no surprise at the reaction and enthusiasm that the car was met with.
The front has an increased volume with a complex surface structure. Carbon ribbing at the bumper’s outer periphery evoke a racy feel.
Then comes the bonnet. Make no mistake, this unique air slit shape is directly evocative of the original TRD3000GT!
The rear wing is also a TRD3000GT high mount shape. We were suprised to find that this wing was actually made using the authentic and original TRD3000GT wing mold. “The wing itself is made to suit the GR, but the wing tips and wing itself are exactly the same as the original”, Mr. Kurimoto informs us.
Front and rear fenders both are done to an over-fender specification. The shape around the rear is particularly elaborate, not only from the side door garnish, but also from the lower sideskirt. This attention to detail gives the car a natural wide form.
Wheels are 19-inch TWS RS317. Tires are Toyo Proxes R888R in 265/30 at the front and 285/35 at the rear. Suspension is TEIN Custom Street Advance Z.
The rear diffuser also takes a complex shape. Muffler is an HKS custom exhaust with a titanium heat gradation.
“We’ll be happy if fans of the original see this and appreciate it in the same way. These aero parts were made without consideration of safety standards. As such, we are not thinking to make it available for sale at this point.” says Mr. Kurimoto (pictured on the left). Mr. Heru Adi Nugroho (pictured right) of Toyota North America says, “Please look forward to the future as we plan to play an active part in the US market.”
All staff involved have poured their spirit into creating this TRD3000GT GR Supra masterpiece. It would be a shame to end such aero production at just the concept stage. We are hoping this makes its way to production!
