A Father and Son with Matching OS Giken TC-24B1 heads?!
We’re envious of this old car tuning family!
Son Nobu drives the fairest of Fairlady Z’s. This one has OS Giken’s TC24-B1 Head which turns a single cam to a twin. This is L-type engine mecha-tuning at its peak.
We were excited to see that such a young person was into tuning old cars. Then we found that his father joined him at this event in his own car, a fully tuned Hakosuka with a matching TC24-B1 head!
It is exceptional in itself that a father and son both be into tuning old cars, but this case of the rare TC24-B1 heads in a matching classic Nissan pair is completely unheard of!
Of course, not only the engines, but these cars are fully tuned!
Nobu’s S30 is a car that has been fully restored over a long period of time. It is unique in that it incorporates new technology while still retaining original parts and old-school flavor.
His fathers Hakosuka has a simple exterior keeping factory body lines and no overfender. It has not gotten a full restore but does have fresh paint. Still it remains in surprisingly good condition from original and has been maintained with affection and attention to detail.
Father Koichi says, “I wanted a car that would be fun and stand out as my daily driver so I bought a Hakosuka. Then, my friend had a TC24-B1 and wouldn’t stop talking about it so I had to have one myself.”
Actually, when the TC24-B1 was released, he already had a different Hakosuka. But he wanted to install the TC24-B1 so he bought the car seen here and began tuning work to incorporate it, resulting in a spirited daily driver.
As they say, like father, like son!
The body has been drastically restored and floor panels have been raised by as much as 80mm to allow the car to ride smoothly at a lowered height. Bodywork was completed little by little over a three year period. The body was freshly painted in R35 GT-R Vibrant Red.
The engine is a fully tuned unit making use of an Italian made Weber 55φ, custom 310° high cam and Cunningham titanium connecting rods allowing 10,000rpm. He has not performed a detailed power check, but estimates around 400ps.
The interior has been refreshed with a full carbon dash and door lining. Gauges are Defi Advance RS (φ80 / 11000rpm) Tachometer, φ52 water temp / oil temp / oil pressure gauges and autometer fuel gauge. Steering wheel is a MOMO prototype. The e-brake is a Kinokuni line lock lever which was modified to suit.
The Z has a Cusco 8-point roll cage. Seats are BRIDE Lowmax Zodia.
Fenders on both sides were slightly modified but have factory look. Headlights have been updated to HID and tail lenses are from an Acty. The wheels are RS Watanabe mags (F15 x 8.5J-6 R15 x 9.5J-19).
The engine has OS Giken forged pistons and H section connecting rod. Original OS cams and aforementioned TC24-B1 head are installed. It also has Weber 55 and 48mm 6-1 equal length custom headers. Not one to lose out to his son, this machine has no doubt been fully tuned as well.
Gauges are Defi 115 tachometer, GReddy water temp / oil temp / oil pressure gauges and a stack electric fuel pressure gauge. The seat is a BRIDE Histrix with a handmade headrest. Steering wheel is a vintage Datsun competition model.
