Starting with the GReddy Series, RE Amemiya has now debuted a number of legendary tuned rotary machines at Auto Salon over the years. The highlight this year is the SA22C-based “RE Amemiya Street 7 IMSA Spec”.

There are a lot of highlights in this build, but first; Color. The blue and pink livery are the same two-tone coloring that was used on the supertuned RE Amemiya Frontier RX-7. This was the car that had the first rotary engine to break the 300km/h barrier back in January 1985.

“When you think about racing SA22C’s this is the color that comes to mind. I had to bring it back after all these years. I’m glad there are still fans who remember it” says Mr. Ame of RE Amemiya.

Power comes from an NA 13B with side ports and Weber 48φ down draft carburator. K&N air cleaner takes the place of funnels, as this car is a street spec model. Maximum output is 240ps / 6500rpm, 27kgm / 5000rpm.

The exhaust is a one-off made by Power Craft who have a close relationship with RE Amemiya. The exhaust manifold is 45φ which runs to a 50φ straight pipe with a dolphin tail muffler. This can of course pass inspection for street registration.

The suspension is an RE Amemiya original setup. Springs are Swift at the front and rear is reinforced. The brakes have been changed to FD3S factory calipers and slit rotors to increase capacity.

Wheels are 17-inch PF01EVO’s by Enkei; 9J +22 at the front and 9.5J ± 0 at the rear. Tires are Advan Neova AD08R in F215/40-17 and R245/40-17.

The interior keeps factory comforts like air conditioning and floor carpeting. The steering wheel is RE Amemiya’s original D-shape model.

The seats are the latest BRIDE models which are sold by RE Amemiya. Drivers side is the ZIEG Ⅳ model and passenger side is the ZETA IV.

The car has extensive bodywork including the IMSA style kit which adds about 150mm to each side. The rear wing is carbon. Carbon aero mirror covers are also an RE Amemiya original product.

Since this project was developed under the theme of “A racing rotary for the street” it can be said that all parts were made with a focus on easily passing vehicle inspection for road registration. Because such a radical car can be used for daily street driving, its appeal pushed it to win the top prize in the Tuning Car category of the Tokyo International Custom Car Contest 2020.
