The long-awaited GTC02 debuts in 17-inch form!
Rare color options unveiled!
The highlight of world famous wheel manufacturer 「Enkei」’s Tokyo Auto Salon booth was the debut of new sizing for their GTC02 racing series wheel that made its first appearance 8 years ago. It was initially available only in 18-inch, with 19-inch model becoming available in autumn 2019 and now the 17-inch model from March 2020. This is the 「Racing GTC02」.
The GTC02 shows Enkei’s commitment and seriousness when it comes to true performance wheels. Incorpating the design philosophy of the RA series Super GT racing wheel, this model has been developed for street use. Rather than simply resembling the design of the GT wheel, the racing division and commercial division worked in cooperation to directly translate the wheel for public use. Special emphasis has been placed not only on weight reduction but also rigidity and head dissipation.
The dimples in the spokes are eye-catching and also functional, in that they efficiently dissipate heat transmitted from the hub and brakes. Surface area of the spoke is increased while still keeping weight at a minimum.
The wheels used on the “Hoppy 86 MC” that participated in the GT300 class of Super GT are the RA series model which because the design base of the GTC02. Note the high degree of resemblance to the racing spec wheel.
The rim decal is emblazoned with “ENKEI Racing Wheel”. This is a title only given to true racing spec wheels.
The street model GTC02 has a sticker that reads “ENKEI RACING PROTOTYPE”. This is meant to convey that the wheel is the “basic form” of the racing spec model. You can see the relationship here with the racing spec wheel and the GTC02.
Another high-profile item is the RPF1 which started production aimed at Jimny models. The JWL-T mark is adopted for trucks and designates approval for hard off-road use, unlike for ordinary car wheels. This model is confident in its design as well as its rigidity.
Elsewhere in the lineup are other items to reference for the direction of future models. Depending on the response, the GTC02 may be produced in bronze coloring. It emphasizes the 3D effect of the design and should visually complement a wide range of vehicles. We hope it gets commercialization!
These two models of PF05 display various finish applications to the spoke surface. These are models for display purpose, not necessarily with commercialization in mind.
