APR is a comprehensive parts brand that was founded in 1997 in Alabama, USA. They produce a wide variety of tuning parts and systems targeting VW, Audi and Porsche. APR Japan which has a network of over 180 dealers in 36 countries around the world has produced this fully tuned 2018 TT RS. It has been dubbed the “TT-RS740”.
“The TT RS is the top grade model of the Audi TT sports series with a 2.5 liter 5-cylinder turbo engine. It has a maximum output of 400ps and is mounted on a well-balanced MQB body. The drive system is 4WD (Quattro) with a 7-speed transmission. This TT RS model tuned by APR has greatly improved performance and has been named the TT RS740. Based on the concept of street driving, we aimed to achieve driving to and from the circuit comfortably, as well as setting circuit lap times comperable to the McLaren 720S” says APR Japan’s representative Mr. Hatada.
The tuning is based on a stage 3 program that was made available in December 2019. The tuning contents include a factory based hybrid turbo TTE700, intercooler, intake and inlet pipe, exhaust manifold, sports catalyst, etc.
This is controlled by an ECU with “direct port programming” which has become synonomous with APR. It is capable of 600ps with commercial high-octane fuel, about 700ps with race fuel and up to 740ps if you use E85 alcohol fuel (requires a dedicated fuel pump and sensor). It is also worth noting that changing the programming to match the fuel can be done by mobile phone app.
The car is equppied with a 3-way suspension produced by American racing suspension manufacturer MCS. This is a complete race spec suspension with separate tanks.
The front member has been changed to a lightweight yet rigid pipe type that has roll center correction due to the lowered ride height. Front and rear arms are fully adjustable pillow type.
The drive system incorporates a TCU (transmission computer) with APR’s DQ500 programming installed. The clutch is a specialized DSG unit with increased strength. The differential is Wavetrack’s electronic control type, which can also be adjusted using a dedicated mobile phone app like the engine programming.
Wheels are 20-inch APR forged S01 in 9J +42. Tires are Michelin PS4S (265/30R20). The brake system uses genuine option carbon ceramic rotors.
APR Japan has plans to participate in drag racing events throughout Japan in 2020 to demonstrate the capabilities of this TT RS740. When tested with E85 fuel on DOT radial tires, it has recorded a time of 9.3 seconds. Domestic drag race participants keep an eye out for this machine!
