Street-tuned performance with cam upgrade and increased boost

 

The Nur Spec is the limited model that appeared as 1000 units at the end of the production span of the BNR34. The suburbly engineered engine is a specially built N1-spec of the RB26. There are many fans of this engine, the owner of this particular BNR34 is one of them. “This engine was my reason to buy this car”, he says.

Nissan Factory launched this motorsports division “REINIK” in 1994 and it became an independent company in 2000.

 

Though the Nur Spec engine is a specialized RB26, it is still a factory stock engine. The owner who wanted more out of this engine was producing racing engines for Gr.A and GT machines. He consulted REIMAX, the shop that was responsible for supplying the 2.8L engines for the Nismo 400R.

As a fan of race engines and working on them from Group A to JGTC, the owner was longing for an RB26 with a similar spirit. That strong feeling led him to buy this car and entrust it to Reimax for tuning.

The head cover painted in gold shilling is the proof that this is indeed a Nur Spec engine.

 

The owner requested a tuning plan for a full engine overhaul and cam upgrade. The overhaul was of course performed by mechanics who know this engine inside and out. Reimax believes that rather than just seeking more power out of the engine, that it is more important to try and improve upon the perfection of this RB26.

Reimax high output street tuned camshaft (IN 256degree 8.58mm, EX 248degree 8.28mm)

 

The camshaft was upgraded to a “high power street cam”. It has a working angle of 256 degrees and 248 degrees in comparison to the normal one which has working angle of 240 intake and 236 exhaust. Lift is about the same as normal, so this is a light tune, but this cam was the best option to receive the flat power characteristics that the owner demanded.

 

The original N1 turbo was boosted by 1.3k and gained 430ps. This car has been tuned for street driving using radial tires, so the tuning characteristics are excellent in terms of balance.

Impul Ohlins super shock suspension is installed. (F10k g/mm R8kg/mm)

 
The suspension is a Ohlins-based system produced by Impul. Japan’s fastest driver, Kazuyoshi Hoshino help set up this suspension kit. Apparently it was selected by brand name rather than performance figures, but the owner is very satisfied with its performance now.

Wheels are Enkei NT03+M. Front and rear are both 10J+18.

 

The wheels are Enkei NT03+M. The owner first saw them on a BNR34 in the same Bayside Blue color and thought “This is the look!”. Thin spokes make the gold brake calipers stand out, a point that fascinates the owner.

The lack of additional gauges on the interior is in keeping with the “wolf in sheep’s clothing” concept.

 

Tuning parts on the interior are just the Power FC (Full Computer) FC Commander. He didn’t set the CP settings himself but rather just uses it for checking various data. There is no need for additional gauges because of the factory multi-function display.

The genuine turbo’s performance has been upgraded without sacrificing ease of use during daily driving. This was Reimax’s proposal and resulted in the top street spec that the owner was seeking.
