Auto Salon style booth in the in-house garage!
Eyes on these fully refreshed tuned machines ready to take on 2021
A prestigious shop hailing from Kyushu, “Garage Active” have been working on a number of activities with the aim of teaching the next generation about the second-gen GT-R’s appeal. When it became clear that Auto Salon 2021 wasn’t going to take place, they recreated an Auto Salon booth in their in-house garage and put the super-tuned cars they had planned to take to Tokyo on display there.
First up is this BCNR33. After a full refresh by Garage Active, it has reached better than new condition. This car was originally sitting in the yard ready to be stripped for parts, but you would never guess that if you saw the beauty it has become.
The engine uses a pair of actuator type GTX2860R turbos along with a 2.8L engine displacement kit from HKS to bring power to 570ps. Taking the torque characteristics into consideration, Active say this is their optimal high-speed street specification. The lovely looking strut tower bar is an original performance oriented piece, and takes not only rigidity but also weight into account. It’s a top seller, with many owners installing it on looks alone.
All the exterior parts that adorn the car – from the widebody kit and rear wing to the Group A style mirrors – are of Garage Active’s own making.
The wheels are Garage Active’s own RC-VI. In big and wide 12J x 19 inch sizing they fill the wheel arches beautifully. The tires are Toyo R888Rs (F/R: 295/30 R19).
As for the second car, this complete BNR32 build is based on the perfect body of a car that had just 7,000km on it – a veritable national treasure. It has of course been tuned, but it has also been thoroughly gone over, receiving a chassis refresh and spot welding.
The fenders get a width boost with an original kit from Garage Active. The body color is original too, taking Aston Martin’s Ceramic Blue as inspiration. The wheels are the same deep dish RC-VIs (12J x 18 inch) as the R-33 wears.
The heart of the car gets HKS’s 2.8L Step2 displacement kit, and a GTIII-4R turbo to take it to 660ps. This specification is of course more than sufficient for street use, and enough to get a real sense of speed at track days or drag races.
On the inside, Kansai Service’s Refresh Bar provides no impediment to getting in and out of the dry-carbon Recaro RMS bucket seats. Another conversation point is the “Rear Seatless Kit”, a new product from Active which transforms the car into a two-seater.
Garage Active representative, Sakamoto-san says “We put our all into these two machines. Unfortunately their official debut stage was canceled, but we’re accepting orders for full restorations at all times!” Drivers who want to enjoy the performance of a GT-R in better-than-new condition should be sure to give them a call.
