Ultra-lightweight body with particular attention to front-rear weight distribution!
7000cc of displacement exerts robust torque from low RPM range
At the recent “Attack Tsukuba 2021” event, this Corvette really stood out with its unique presence. The base car is the C6 high-performance model “Z06”. From there it was tuned as a pure time attack circuit machine with a focus on weight reduction.
The engine is a 7.0L LS1 V8. Each part has been balanced and assembled with high accuracy and precision. Engine control comes from rewriting the factory ECU. Output was measured at 560ps / 62kgm. Due to the output characteristic that monster torque rises from the low RPM range, “The driving style and running line on the circuit are totally different from other cars,” says Chevy Service Miki representative in charge of the proect, Mr. Fukatsu.
Front and rear brakes are armed with Endless 6-pot monoblock calipers. One-off original arms by Advance Auto and a custom-made coilover setup by Sachs improve stability during circuit running.
Through various weight reductions made on both interior and exterior, the weight of the car is 1200kg; 200kg less than genuine factory. The seat and steering mechanisms were moved back in order to bring the front-rear weight distribution to as close to 50:50 as possible. The dashboard is a lightweight one-off original made by remolding the factory dash. Various switches were relocated to allow ease of operation.
The roll cage is also a one-off original product. The factory transmission is not cut out for hard circuit use and has been upgraded to a GM Performance 6-speed.
The rear wing is a vertial mount type directly attached to the car’s frame. A large rear underpanel and twin canards optimize downforce at the front and rear. Tires are Advan A050 (F295/30R18, R295/35R18).
The best time clocked on the day of the event was 59.629 seconds. We are told the car is still undergoing settings adjustments for Tsukuba with a goal of breaking the 58 second mark. We don’t see too many American cars in the time attack scene, so we look forward to the future success of this Corvette.
